Generally, there are two schools of magic. One is that we are all part of the Source and thus we all have an aptitude for magic. The second school of thought is that magic can only be given through a teacher who has a connection to The Source.

Magic builds a feedback loop in both energy reserves and also emotional reserves. Because of this, controlled meditation and the affirmation that one controls their own magical power tends to be central in a mage's training.
